Emergency Communications using FRS Two Way Radio's.
During an emergency or disaster, your normal methods of communication like land line telephone and cell phones may not work.
FRS two-way radios may be an alternate means of communicating during these type of events.
Residents and businesses can adopt a simple system to use them as a backup form of communication. There are no guarantees that any communication medium will be 100% effective, but having options are always better then having none!
If primary communications fail during an emergency, a *$20.00 FRS two-way radio could provide an alternate means of summoning help from your neighbors.
During an emergency or disaster, Battery Park City, Community Emergency Response Team (BPC-CERT) will monitor FRS Channel #1 (No Privacy Tone or Code).
BPC-CERT is a community volunteer non profit organization trained under the FEMA CERT program. BPC-CERT is not a first responder. In an emergency call 911 for your local Police, Fire or EMS. If all else fails, BPC-CERT will deploy to assist the community.
